Drag and drop of VM in Workstation 11 (Linux) is not working, and crashed when you use the 'cut' feature

1.

I the past versions, I could drag and drop VM order or put them in folder.

I am using Fedora 21. It is not working (it worked in WKS ver 10).

2.

Also, when you cut (in top menu bar, Edit - >Cut), the VMware GUI crashed!

"no un-bridged adapter" - and yes, I know this has been asked many times before :)

OK, so I installed vmware workstation 10 on windows 8.1 update. I got the above error. "No problem" I thought, and followed the community and googled advice, I:

1) uninstalled vmware

2) disabled my antivirus (Kaspersky)

3) ran the installer "As administrator" (I'm a member of the local administrators group, so hopefully anything else that doesn't require elevated permissions would be OK)

Result: Virtual Network Editor does not show VMnet0, but I see it in C:\ProgramData\VMware\netmap.conf

#This file is automatically generated.

# Hand-editing this file is not recommended.

network0.name = "HostOnly"

network0.device = "vmnet1"

network1.name = "NAT"

network1.device = "vmnet8"

network2.name = "VMNet0"

network2.device = "vmnet0"

Looking at the properties of my network adapter (Intel(R) Ethernet Connection I217-LM) I see the vmware bridge protocol and the vmnetbridge service is running.

So next I try the "restore defaults" in the network editor - no change. I try removing the protocol from the adapter and I get error 0x80070005 but if i click OK and go back into the properties, it's gone. I can't add it back, because I'm told it's marked for deletion. So I reboot, try to add it, and I get access denied, but again if I close the dialog, and go back, the service is now there.

I'm just in a workgroup and i have not applied any Group Policies...

Happy to try any suggestions...

Win10 Guest unable to join Homegroup

I do not know if this is a known problem with VMWare Guests, or an odd quirk of Windows 10.

Windows 10 (release)  host.

Windows 10 (release) guest

Homegroup is on Lan and detected by guest, and a prompt is given to join Homegroup. Appropriate passkey entered into dialog and the system goes away for a long time (three-five minutes) then replaces the dialog with a message saying that the Homegroup is no longer on the network. (It is of course).

I obviously don't care too much whether I use the Homegroup but it may be indicative of other VMWare Lan issues, or a network compatibility issue with the Win10 release

Need help installing Windows 95

I'm using this software to run old music programs I had once used in Win 3.1 and 95.  I select advanced when setting up the Virtual Machine to make sure it has usb support so it can hopefully use my usb MIDI interface in Win 95.  I had owned a Windows 95 CD but it got lost a long time ago.  I got a win95.iso installation file from this link.  It is from Google docs so this has to be legit.  The file is 599 MB which seems kind of large for Win 95, but It detects the file as Windows 95, and sets up the virtual machine normally, creating the virtual disk.

I am follow these instructions for installing win95.  Once the virtual machine is set up and powered on, the boot disk is on drive A;, and the installation CD is on drive R:, called BANANA. It seems to boot up normally, but there is no drive C:. I use FDISK as per the instructions and that seems to go as it should, but it says I must reboot Win95 for the changes to take effect.  When I reboot ("reset") it, I get the error Missing Operating System_.  I delete the virtual machine and set it up again, this time not rebooting and I use the command FORMAT C: /S.  Then I get "Invalid drive specification"  If I switch to drive R: and use the included setup program, I get "Could not create temporary directory.  If your disk is NTFS file system, (etc), you must create a Dos boot partition." even though the virtual disk file is on a FAT32 partition.  Also, it seems that that is what FDISK is supposed to do.

If I can just get over this hurdle I'm betting the rest will be smooth sailing.  Thanks.

Workstations 11 & 12 Loses USB3 Under Win10 Host

Once host was upgraded from Win7 to Win10, USB3 functionality instantly quit working altogether across all of my guest VMs.  Completely uninstalling Workstation 11 and installing Workstation 12 did not fix the problem.  Setting VM to USB2 also did not fix.  Internal webcam must be on USB3 as well as this device completely crashes if I try t connect to it in any of the VMs.  There's UAC admin problems in Virtual Network Editor as well.  I've tried running USB3 in guest VMs of WinXP, Win7, and Win8.1 and none of them seem to work.  Everything works fine in the host itself.  Did the VMWare team forget about running their software under Windows 10?

Loading Kali-Linux ERROR

When I got to "Play Virtual Machine" in "Creating New Virtual Machine"  I got the following error:

Binary translation is incompatible with long mode on this platform. Long mode will be disabled in this virtual environment and applications requiring long mode will not function properly as a result. See http://vmware.com/info?id=152 for more details.

(I checked my computer for compatibility using the program and it came back as compatible)

I selected "OK"

Then I got error code:

VMware Player unrecoverable error: (vcpu-0)

vcpu-0:VERIFY vmcore/vmm/main/cpuid.c:376 bugNr=1036521

A log file is available in "C:\Users\Gary and Linda\Documents\Virtual Machines\Ubuntu KALI Linux\vmware.log".

See attached log file.

What should I do?

My processor is an Intel N2940 which does not support EPT. What should I select under "Preferred mode" for processor?

[Workstation 12] Can't install Windows 10 Professional x64 (SOLVED)

$

I'd think this would be a fairly normal scenario yet I can't complete an out of the box installation of Windows 10 Professional x64.

  1. I mount my ISO and read the notification "Could not detect which operating system is in this disc image." and click next.
  2. I choose Windows 10 x64 as the version since that's what it is, then choose the location.
  3. I choose BIOS firmware type as EFI wouldn't work.
  4. I choose 1 processor with 2 cores.
  5. I choose 8192 MB RAM.
  6. I choose NAT for networking.
  7. I choose LSI Logic SAS because that's my only choice, the other two state not supported.
  8. I choose SCSI (Recommended)
    1. I also tried IDE
    2. I also tried SATA

The Windows 10 installation starts and it basically runs up until it asks for a driver, presumably because it feels like it can't install onto a drive. I mounted the VMware tools ISO to see if it had any useful drivers but it did not.

I then installed again and for point 8 I chose SATA and this didn't make a difference however running diskpart shows that a drive is available! I added another drive too, an IDE drive, same thing, now I see two drives but I can't install on either!

How's everyone else installing Windows 10? I expected this to be a breeze like every other OS and considering how many people are commenting on VMware with Windows 10, I can't expect that every VMware Workstation user jumped through hoops to make this work... this is frustrating!!

Thanks in advance.

ws11 linux host win7 guest sound problems fixed

$

My Windows 7 virtual machine upgraded from workstation 10 to workstation 11 had several problems I reported before, including locking up the machine and crashing when I was trying to fix the audio. In workstation 10, both the microphone and the speakers piped through ALSA worked fine, whereas in 11 the sound was filled with static and the microphone input processing was both slow and barely working. My litmus test is Dragon NaturallySpeaking. The distorted sound output led me to test a Linux virtual machine in which the sound was perfect, suggesting that something about the Windows setup was incorrect.

In any case a knowledge base article on fusion led me to the fix, which was editing the.VMX file and commenting out "sound.virtualDev = "hdaudio."

I'm posting this in case anyone else has similar problems.

Excel 2013 crashes Win7 under Workstation 11.1 when searching for a string in Excel

Hi,

I might have found an annoying bug when using Excel 2013 in a Win7 VM: Excel xls-workbooks that have multiple sheets crashes Workstation when you search a string in ALL sheets as an option.

I have this setup:

- VMware Workstation 11.1.0 running under Windows Server 2012 R2

- Virtual machine: Windows 7

- Office 2013 (Excel 2013)

I can reproduce this at any given time.

Win10 guest desn't take keyboard input

On my Lenovo Yoga3 Pro I migrated a phisical machine with Win10 using vCenter Converter. When I start it with VM Workstation 12 apparently everything is fine, the interface says that both mouse and keybard inputs are captured, the mouse works perfectly but the keyboard does not work. I may use the onscreen keyboard to login and work, but I cannot use the laptop keyboard.

Do you have any suggestion on how to debug it?

Thanks in advance

Workstation 11 instant shutdown with Windows 8 and 10

Hello,

my host system is a Linux Mint installation. I use a lot of VMs. Except of two of them, all are running Linux. Those machines never crashed. But both Windows machines instantly performed a shutdown, comparable to a power loss. Sometimes it happens when the host machine puts the monitor to standby mode, some happens performing usual tasks, like copy and paste in word or pressing a letter in the explorer, in order to search a file/folder.

My colleague has the same problem. He thinks it happens most times when he access the file system.

Kind regards

Hey guys, wondering if you can help me out with this, I upgraded to windows 10 and having this annoying issue in vmware workstation 11

I want to make VMnet2 only use my MIFI wifi and not my regular internet so I went to the virtual network editor like I did before and added vmnet2 but when I check the box for bridged to select the wifi it says “cannot change network to bridged there are no un-bridged host network adapters” which has got me stumped >.<

Intermittent Copy/Paste in WKS 11.1.2

I've been experiencing intermittent copy/paste issues in Workstation 11.1.2.

In general, paste stops working, or starts working again, for no apparent reason.  Unfortunately I haven't been able to isolate steps to reproduce.

Paste functionality can be occasionally restored by using the guest's Edit | Paste option.

VMware tools are loaded.  Cut/paste is enabled.  Logins have admin rights but are running as normal users (split tokens).

Host:  Win7U SP1

Guest: Win7U SP1, Win Server 2012 R2.

WKS:   11.1.2
