Hello,
I am having some difficulty printing from within a Ubuntu 13.10 virtual machine. I have the latest VMware tools installed (9.6.1-1378637) and am trying to print to the host machines (Windows 7 64-bit) printers but it just freezes in the queue on the host. The fact that it is passing it on to the host machine properly but not actually finishing the print job leads me to believe it is a VMware issue and not the Linux guest. All of the printers are showing up just fine, but all of them are reacting the same way when trying to print to them. The strange thing is that I can connect to the localhost:631 and select the printer and go to Maintenance->Print Test Page and it will print a page with "#PDX-BANNER Template default-testpage.pdf Show printer-name printer-info printer-1" and nothing else. So SOME printing works, although not very well as the test page is not printing properly. It is using Thinprint to print -- the connection is setup as "tvpmlp://HP_LaserJet_Professional_P1606dn:3" which was auto-created by VMware Tools. You can not cancel the print job manually in the Windows host either -- it just sits there with "Deleting - Printing" and I am forced to delete the print job from "C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\PRINTERS" and then restart the "Print Spooler" service. CUPS thinks that it prints correctly to as evidenced by the /var/log/cups/access_log output:
localhost - - [15/Nov/2013:10:51:11 -0800] "POST /printers/HP_LaserJet_Professional_P1606dn:3 HTTP/1.1" 200 410 Print-Job successful-ok
If anyone has any ideas or could shed some light on this issue that would be great. Thanks for your time.
