Hi!
We are planning to buy multiple licenses of vmware Workstation 10, as we are now using virtualbox, and tought about switching to a more professionnal solution.
The problem is that we are running the virtual machines on different laptops, 2 different kinds actually. One model is a HP DV7-6C73CA with a AMD Radeon HD 7470M card (Used to be ATI), and the other one is a HP DV7-7015CA, with a Nvidia GT630M. On both of these laptops, we work with a dual monitor setup, having a second monitor hooked up to the laptop VGA port.
On the DV7-7015CA ones, unity works great, and Cycle multiple monitors in fullscreen works too.
On the DV7-6C73CA ones, Cycle multiple monitors won't work, and Unity only work if the second monitor is unhooked from the laptop. The error message is that the guest OS does not support either unity or multiple monitor.
On Both models, the latest drivers were installed. Both are running Windows 7 64 as guest AND hosts. On all the laptops, it's the same virtual machine that is running, a copy of an original one, as we want to test that everything is working before buying it.
On the virtual machine, the latest version of vmware tools is installed.
- So we tried about every driver that was out for the AMD card, didn't work
- Tried with only one monitor hooked, unity worked, but with both monitor hooked, crash saying that guest does not support unity (Worst part is that it switch to unity, build start menu, and everything, then revert to non-unity giving the error message)
- Cycle multiple monitor never work on AMD cards, but work great on Nvidia one
- Tried different version of VMWare tools, none worked on AMD cards, but all worked on Nvidia ones...
- Tried to set up Graphic adapter to "Fixed" instead of "dynamic" in the laptop's BIOS to force 3D card (since it's a hybrid card) instead of running Intel/AMD automatic switching, didn't work either.
We are getting pretty out of ideas, except maybe reverting back to Virtualbox, which worked great on both models.
Anyone have any idea?
Thanks
