Workstation 10.0.1-1379776.
I create a Workstation 9 VM. (The reason it is Version 9, is because when I upgraded the previous VM from 9 to 10, it broke the IBM Application inside it. So I'm trying to determine exactly what was the cause.)
It has One 64GB Flat file fully allocated, and 1.5GB RAM, aside from that the default settings were used to create the VM.
I install Windows 7 Professional with Default settings (performance is slow at this point), and then apply all Microsoft patches.
I notice though, that this VM runs EXTREMELY Slowly, but I persevere.
I then install the latest Java Runtime 7U51.
I then install a 3rd party Application from IBM, and confirm it runs successfully (although EXTREMELY slowly).
At this point. I decide to take a Clone, as getting to this point has take the best part of 10 hours. (The clone also has a single 64GB Fully allocated Flat file, and 1.5GB or RAM. It took 1 hour 50 mins to create the Clone)
I Power on the Cloned VM, and immediately notice it is running at a speed I would normally expect.
I install an AV product, and confirm the IBM Application still runs. (and still at an acceptable speed).
So, I think I'll try the original VM, and again it runs like a DOG, EXTREMELY slowly, so much so, that I shut it down, and 14 hours later it is still "shutting down", so I power it off.
I decide to Power on the Cloned copy, and it still runs normally. So I shut it down again.
I power the original on again, just to confirm the Power Off did no harm, and it does start, and I can log on, but still it runs EXTREMELY Slowly (the logon is still running some 60 minutes after entering the User/password, and the Start bar has NOT appeared).
As I have a few more actions to get back to running the Application as a Workstation 10 VM, putting up with this poor performance is not acceptable to me.
yes I could Junk the VM and use the Cloned copy, but I would like to understand what the root cause could be.
Is there anything I can look at to see what may be causing this behaviour?.
Thanks in anticipation.
