Templates and Linked Clones in VMware Workstation

Dear Sir/madam,

Specs of my HP probook 6570b:

CPU: Intel Core i5 3210M;

RAM: Kingston 16GB;

SSD1: Samsung SM843T 480GB (OS = Windows 8.1);

SSD2: Samsung SM843T 480GB (Data).

I have a question regarding VMware Workstation with templates and linked clones.

As you can see above I own two Samsung SSDs with a capacity of 480GB each. I want to have the best possible performance for the VMs (Server 2012, ESXi, vCenter with OPS, View, Linux, Server Core etc.). I have templates (sysprepped) of:

- Windows Server 2012;

- Server Core 2012;

- Windows 7 64-bit.

I have templates of these machines, because I use these OS's often. Now I know that it is very easy to create linked clones of VMs and that this takes much less space than full clones. Therefore I would like to know your recommendations for me in terms of how I should divide the templates and linked clones on both SSDs (regarding IOPS, reads, writes) and more importantly why I should do it that way. So that I can learn from this.

I hope to hear from you soon.

Thank you in advance for your time and effort. Greatly appreciated!
