Working with software provided with a Linux text, I have attempted multiple times to install the distribution as a virtual machine. Graphical installation has succeeded just once, so I've gone with the text install. The release is Fedora 2, Kernal 2.6.5-1.358.
However, after multiple attempts at installing the distribution, it still has the same issue...once the startup process has completed and the login screen is presented, the machine starts blinking. I have included with this post a video taken of the startup and login process.
When the screen goes blank, the machine is not accepting key stokes. This is demonstrated after I successfully log in, when I start typing numbers from one (1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11...that sort of thing). At about the 5:42 mark, the onscreen numbers go from 6, to 26 then 27.
I'm thinking the issue has to do with hardware detection, specifically for the monitor, but I'm at a loss as to how to get it to recognise my monitor's resolution. The host machine is a Lenovo T520, 8GB RAM, 1600x900 resolution.
I have been able to successfully install Fedora 17 as a guest machine, both text and graphical, without any problems. Why am I still trying to figure out how to get Fedora 2 installed then? I start my new course in a month and I want to have a foot in the door before I start, and I'm working with the presumption that if it's with the text, it's likely to be used as part of the course.
