VMWare 10 - Windows Server 2008R2 - connecting to my Host Machine SQL Server -

Hello, new to the forum and the VMware tool. I'm using the VMware workstation 10.0.0 build-1295980

On my VMware server environment, I am running Windows Server 2008R2, in IIS 7.5, I am getting this error:

Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS LOGON'.

The application works fine in my VS2013 Development environment.

My host environment is Windows7 Enterprise Edition.  I am running SQL Server 2008R2.

Any suggestions on how to create a trusted connection between my VMware server and my local SQL Server DB?

OR... suggestions on how to connect to my local DB?

Thanks,

Upgrade installation - previous installed version required?

$

I bought VMware Workstation v10 upgrade.

To install this 515MB Upgrade file, is it necessary to first install v9 ?

Or can the file be used as a fresh install on a system without a previously installed Workstation ?

Sometimes, for upgrades, a previous install is required, or at least the first version that was bought.

Thanks

Cannot connect the virtual device ide1:0 because no corresponding device is available on the host.

Do you want to try to connect this virtual device every time you power on the virtual machine?

Yep...

After booting

Warning : Virtual device ide1:0 will start disconnected.

Beats me what ide1:0 is ...

Does anybody out there has a clue?

TIA

Two VM's on different networks and ping each other

Hi,

I am using VMware Workstation for the first time. I have two VM's and I want them to be on two different networks. I want the networks to be able to ping each other. I have been researching this since yesterday and nothing seems to be working. Maybe I am confused with the bridge, Nat and host-only adapters. What I did is:

VM1 --> Has two network adapters: VMNET1-Host-Only (192.168.247.128) and VMNET8-NAT ( 192.168.42.130)

I am not able to have internet connection on the HOST-Only

VM2 --> Has one network adapter: VMNET8-NAT(192.168.42.129)

From each VM I can ping everything on the other VM but this seems a bit odd,

Is there any other way to do this ?

Thank you very much

Hi,

I have a wcf service that regular pc running a client application communicate. They use the UDP Discovery protocol to determine details about available endpoints and use this to establish a connection. This works fine.

Problem is several location in our business use a thin client with the same software.

My Question is. Currently the wcf client application on the thin client cannot connect to my service. Do i need to open ports or configure this some how? I at a loss here.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Migrating Windows 2000 VMs to Workstation 10.0

I need to migrate older virtual machines running Windows 2000 Server to VMWare Workstation 10.0.   Before I end up really screwing something up, I want to check:

1) Is it safe to upgrade the hardware to Workstation 10?  It currently runs Workstation 6.5

2) Is it even possible to upgrade VMWare Tools that comes with Workstation 10 on a Windows 2000 system?

Upgrading Xp pro to Windows 7 guest on Workstation 10

I have a W7 upgrade licence which requires an installed copy of Xp.

When loading the W7 onto the installed Xp Vm (which has been recognised as an Xp Pro guest), a range of drivers are not there/do not work:

ethernet (eth1000 drivers not there)

scsi (buslogic rather than lsi)

Audio (need to specify sb)

Usb

I have not been able to edit the vmx file to point at the correct drivers.

So the question, does anyone have a list of all the required drivers to put into the vmx, or is there a better procedure to bootstrap the W7 install (e.g. nominate a W7 guest when installing Xp)?

Thanks.

Briged networking broken when working without network cable

I know that this question has been discussed a lot of times but without a good solution. So I will try it again.

I'm running VMWARE WS on an Linux host. The guest is also  linux. Both use fixed ip adresses and talk to each other via briged networking. vmnet0 is connected to eth0.

Everything works fine as long as the machine has a network cable pluged in. The network connection to the outside ist not needed.

When I remove the network cable  -- beeing outside with this laptop -- vmnet0 stops working.

My workaround was to use a network switch and cable in order to fake a network connection. Is there another way to solve this problem?

If there is someone from VMWARE reading here:

  • Please consider the option that we want to have a briged netork connection between host and guest only and fix this problem which is discussed for more than 5 years now !!

VMware (2 machines), WinDbg, target machine 100% CPU on breakpoint

Ubuntu 14.04

VMware Workstation 10.0.1 build-1379776

Two machines (Windows XP SP3 x86), machine A running WinDbg, debugging machine B through virtual serial port (pipe).

Normal CPU usage, but when a breakpoint is hit at B, vmware-vmx process associated to B uses 100% CPU.

"Yield CPU on poll" is activated for both virtual machines.

Please, ask whatever extra information you need, I'll be glad to provide, thanks in advance.

Windows 8.1 no image found

Hi,

I have been trying to install Windows 8.1 using VMware workstation 10  for a friend and each time I have tried to do so I only get so far in the installation process and Windows 8.1 presents a screen asking for an image from which to install.

We have tried using a physical DVD image for the installation as well as mounting an image as a virtual DVD using Damian tools Lite but neither process will move beyond the initial install screen for Windows 8.1.

We have also tried creating a blank virtual machine and then installing the operating system on it but again we only get to the point where Windows 8.1 starts the installation and then returns a message asking for an image saying that no image can be found. Using this method we get to the screen following the entry of a serial number for Windows 8.1.

I was wondering whether anybody else had come across this particular issue.

Thanks in anticipation

regards

Trevor

Any relation of the VMWare tools end of support per VMWare version and Windos version?

Hi.

Currently what I want to know exactly is which is the last VMWare workstation whose VMWare tools support Windows 98 (yeah, sad, we must deploy some of those virtual machines in order to revive an old software).

Is there any public document which describes VMWare tools OS support per VMWare version?

Thank you guys in advance.

How to enable clipboard sharing for shared vms?

$

Hi guys.

Important note: this is about VMWare Workstation.

When I share a virtual machine so other guys in the network can manage it, I loose next abilities:

* clipboard sharing via VMWare tools

* file drag and drop via VMWare tools

* ability to mount isos from MY LOCAL FILESYSTEM on the virtual machine DVD drives

Do anyone know how to re-enable those features?

Lots of thanks in advance.

Foward TCP/UDP requests from Virtual Machine to Host.

Hi, I need help, so, basically I've been through a lot of tutorials and they're all garbage. First, they say you have to go to "Edit" In Virtual Network Editor, I don't have that. I also notice they're virtual network editor has tabs but mine doesn't. The host I'm using is Ubuntu 14.04 LTS with a Virtual Machine of Peppermint 4. I originally tried to bridge connections from host to guest but in the guest os the IP is different from what shows on my DCHP client list in my router. Is there any way I can fix this?

VM guest Windows 7 crashed with WinBSOD, VMware 9

Hello,
Recently an odd issue comes up with VMware Workstation 9, Win7 64bit guests. Win7 in VM very slowly starts up then crashes.

The vmware log file contains lines like this:

2014-05-31T06:37:57.770+02:00| vmx| I120: scsi0:0: Command WRITE(10) took 4.098 seconds (ok)

...

2014-05-31T12:03:36.430+02:00| mks| I120: WinBSOD: (27) `Collecting data for crash dump ...

The VM virtual disk is located in a separate storage drive. This issue comes up sporadically since then.

Do you have any idea about what may raise this kind of problem?

Is it related to the host disk drive or a bug in VMware Workstation?

Install vCenter 5.5 on a Win2k12 Domain Controller

$

Hello everybody,

I hope someone can help me with what I'm trying to do in my cheap home lab (laptop running nested esxi). As the subjects suggest, I'm trying to install SSO, Web Client, Inventory Service, and vCenter Server on a Win2k12 that will be a DC. What I've done so far (besides pulling my hair):

1. Install and activate Win2k12

2. Install vCenter using Simple install

3. Change ports for LDAP and SSL to 3899 and 6369 accordingly (instead of 389 an 636)

4. Added DC, DHCP, and DNS roles

5. Try to promote the DC in a new forest = FAILED because the required ports are already in use, particularly giving me issue is port 88 used by vmware kdc service. As soon as I kill / uninstall VMware SSO, I can promote the server to a DC, but then I cannot login to vCenter anymore.

Any idea / help will be very much appreciated!
