System freezing up with Workstation 14.1.1 and Ubuntu 18.04 (Linux 4.15.0)

I've just upgraded from Workstation 12 to 14.  It installed without trouble, and runs without any errors or warnings, either from the GUI or in any of the logfiles.

 

When I start up a Windows 7 VM, it starts up and works normally.  However, every minute or so, the display and input devices stop working.  The mouse cursor works, but mouse buttons and keys are non-responsive.  It triggers most noticeably when I open or close a window, or if there's a large redraw of a window.  The lockup lasts a minute or so before it recovers.  They keyboard is totally useless; I can't release control from the VM with Ctrl+Alt, or even VT switch with C-A-Fn.  This makes vmware largely unusable.

 

Is this a known issue with Linux 4.15 / Workstation 14.1.1?  Anything I could do to investigate further?

I asked a similar question a year ago and at the time the chance of something migrating between host/guest was seen as minimal, but of course Meltdown & Spectre have been discovered in the intervening period so I'm wondering if there's been a change in that assessment...

KUbuntu 18.04 - Attempting to install VMWare Workstation Pro 15 on it. Gets thru part of install and then stops with a "Installation was unsuccessful"

I've poked around the internet and this site and so far it look like I'm the only one that has this error/issue (I find that hard to believe.  Anyone seen this or know if there is a logfile specific to attempted installs I can sift thru?

Can't Install VMware Workstation 15 Pro

Everytime i Try To Install VMware Workstation 15 This Error Comes Up:

 

The Cabinet File "ToolsIsos.cab" required for this installation is corrupt and cannot be used. This could indicate a network error, an error reading from the CD-ROM, or a problem with this package.

 

And I Don't Know How to Fix This!

 

Im Using Windows 8.1

I Will Be Very Glad if Somebody Would Have An Solution!

No bridged networking with 12.5 on Win7 x64 host

Bridged networking has disappeared from vmware workstation after I upgraded to version 12.5. Network adapter on my machine is an Intel I219-V. Reinstalling 12.1.1 solves the problem, bridged networking is available again.

Headset microphome not working in Windows 10 guest

Hello,

the microphone of my headset in my Windows 10 guest

doesn't work. The headphones are working (host and guest) and the microphone is working.

correctly in the host.

 

Tried USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 compatibility. No success.

As the speakers of headset working you can see that the headset is connected in client.

When i go in setup for microphone, i get the error that setup can't be started because no microphone.

(Again: The same setup works in host)

 

What could be the cause ?

I'm unable to install VMWare-WSX on Centos7. I'm launching install and .... nothing.

Debian 9.5 guest no network

Hello,

i run a Debian 9.5 guest on my Windows 10 host and have no network in this guest.

The network is bridge and for all other guests it works.

 

I installed open vm tools but it also failed with vmware tools.

There is a network adapter defined in the debian settings.

The MAC address is the same as in the VM settingds.

 

When i click on the network node in the file manager, i get the error something like this:

 

can't open "/ auf"

 

(translated from german)

 

What can i do, to get network working and access to windows shares folder.

VMWare Workstation for Windows randomly loses copy/paste between host and VM

I am using VMWare Workstation (v14.1.3) for Windows on Windows 10 Pro x64. All the guests are Windows. When I start out I can copy/paste between the host and the guests. But after a while (and I am not sure when or why), I lose the ability to copy/paste between the host and some (but not all) of the guests.  The only thing that brings it back is to suspend all the active VMs, restart VMWare Workstation and resume the VMs. The VMWare Tools appears up to date (v10.2.5) on all the VMs.

 

Is this a known issue? Is anyone else experiencing this?

Unity Mode in Workstation v15.0 continues crashing out

After upgrading to v15.0, my Unity Mode keeps crashing out.

 

After I enter the Unity mode, the tasks in VM works fine, but after several minutes (about 3 minutes at average), Unity mode disappeared and it goes back to normal mode. There is no error message or message box or anything. Just like it "went out of Unity by itself".

 

The host is Windows 10 1809 17758.4, and the VM is Windows 10 1803 17134.345. The application is VMWare Workstation 15.0.0 build-10134415.

 

The VM was created on v14 and then upgraded. I've upgraded the VMWare Tools too.

Workstation Pro 14.1.2, garbled sound on Windows 2000/XP VMs

Hello, this is my first post.

 

I run Windows 10 Home x64 as my host.

 

I've been experiencing an issue with Windows 2000 and XP virtual machines where the audio is garbled, cracks, and is distorted.

 

Looked all over the internet for a fix, but none of them are working. I've tried reinstalling VMWare Tools, installing drivers for the Creative EsoniqPCI card, editing the .vmx file, and changing the hardware compatibility.

 

If anyone has a working fix, I would be glad to try it.

FreeBSD 10.3/11 Desktop mouse integration

I have FreeBSD running on VMware workstation player 12.x (latest) and I can't get the mouse to move back and forth from my Windows 7 host and my FreeBSD guest.  CentOS and other Linux VMs obviously work.  I have loaded vmware tools for FreeBSD and tried open-vm-tools. 

 

I have vmware services loaded at startup in my rc.conf and I have created a X11 config file and made the necessary changes.

 

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Unity Mode has a small screen resolution

Hi,

 

I am using VMWare  Workstation15. My virtual machine has a normal resolution (1044 x 900). When I start the Unity Mode, the resolution is so small, there I cannot read anything. I tried to decrease the resolution in the guest machine, but the Unity Mode didn't change.

 

Why is the resolution by Unity Mode different from the normal view? How can I change it?

Device/Credential Guard error on Windows 10 Home

I recently upgraded to the latest version of VMware Workstation (14.1.1) and am now encountering the following problem when trying to launch VM's that worked fine previously.

 

"VMware Workstation and Device/Credential Guard are not compatible. VMware Workstation can be run after disabling Device/Credential Guard. Please visit http://www.vmware.com/go/turnoff_CG_DG for more details."

 

Problem is that I'm running Windows 10 Home and the Device/Credential Guard is not a feature of that version - it's in Windows 10 Enterprise.

 

VMware Workstation version: 14.1.1 build 7528167

Windows 10 version:  Windows 10 Home - Version 1083 (build 17115.1)

 

As mentioned previously the VM's worked fine on the previous version of Workstation 14 on Windows 10 Home. The suggestions to turn off Device/Credential Guard for Windows 10 all relate to the Enterprise version and Hyper-V, which doesn't run on the Home version so the settings to change don't exist.

 

Appreciate any assistance or suggestions to resolve my problem.

WMware Workstation and QNAP SMB share

QNAP NAS with OS 4.3.5

Client Machine: WinSvr2016 Standard (no Hyper-V installed) <- Connected to QNAP NAS.

VMware Workstation 15 installed in the Client Machine

Shared folder in QNAP mounted by SMB in the CLient MAchine

 

When creating, cloning, etc. VMware Workstaton VMs in the QNAP SMB Shared folder, constantly returns messages about lack of privileges. Here some of them: "Insufficient permissions.", "Cloning failed. The request could not be performed because and I/O device error.", and others.

 

WMware is the unique software that raises this problems into this QNAP SMB share. I can creat and copy files with Windows Explorer, I can work with Oracle Virtual Box VMs in the same SMB share, Etc.

 

VMware Workstation can work OK in a QNAP share if it is an iSCSI LUN, but this is not acceptable for this particular case, because other machine clients should be able to work with other VMs into the same share... and iSCSI cannot be mounted in more than one client machine for this purpose (without a clusterware "joining" all that client machines, which is not the case here).

 

Any idea about what I have to config in VMware Workstation to be able to work in a SMB share?

PRO12 guest is LinuxMint19 with MATE, cannot use clipboard

I created a new VM today using LinuxMint 19 MATE ISO image (64 bit).

I had to select Ubuntu 64bit as operating system since Linux Mint is not in the list.

After setting it up properly and configuring keyboard, display etc I have now used it a while.

 

What disturbs me is that contrary to other VM:s I have used the clipboard does not work.

If I copy text on Windows7 (the host) it cannot be pasted inside the guest.

Same in the other direction.

 

I looked at the VM/Settings/Options/GuestIsolation and both "Enable Drag&drop" and "Enable Copy-Paste" are checked.

But if these are checked should not the clipboard be shared?

 

Where can I enable this function?

It drives me nuts having to type long lines of command text which I could copy/paste much quicker.
