VMware Workstation 15.1 mouse issue with RDP and Windows 10 1903 host

I have a computer that I RDP into that runs the latest version of VMware Workstation (15.1). I just upgraded it from Windows 10 1809 to Windows 10 1903.

There is a defect where anytime the mouse changes inside a VM (like from a pointer to a hand) the mouse jumps slightly, making it very annoying to actually do anything in the VM with a mouse. The guest OS can be anything, Windows OR Linux. I'm also running the latest VMware tools in the guest.

This problem only occurs if the host is running Windows 10 1903 AND you are RDPing into that host. This is guest agnostic.

When I reverted the host back to 1809 the problem went away. The mouse jumping problem seems to be associated with a Windows 10 1903 host running VMware Workstation.

I'm not sure where to report this bug. I tried to buy a support contract for VMware Workstation but you can't buy one if you only hold one license.

Is there a place where I can report this bug? Does anyone have a workaround for it?

A Question About Encryption in VM Workstation 15

$

Ok i have a question:

Lets say i encrypt a machine in vm (settings-->options-->access control-->Encrypt...).

If i grab the vmdk file (the virtual disk) and i copy it to another physical pc without a vm workstation or other product of vmware inc, and i try to mount it with a software like OSFMount or any other solution, what will happen?

Can anyone read the data inside the vmdk file?

When using "bridging" network type, possible to have network active even if bridge physical port unplugged?

Using VMWare Workstation Pro 15.5 on Windows 10 (with all updates for both)

I have VM guest machine that is a IP router with DHCP Server on of the virtual interface (VNet12, set to Bridging to a specific physical NIC). Works fine if I have something plugged into the physical NIC. But the problem comes in if there isn't something connected to the physical NIC...in Windows, the physical NIC is show as "not connected" and doesn't get an IP address from the DHCP server within a guest machine. I'd like the host Windows machine to get an IP address on the host, even if nothing is plugged in. If something get's plugged in, the Windows interface become active so the DHCP stuff works in that case. My use case is the host machine would like to access the guest using IP address assigned by the guest machine to the host, and if there is switch to extend the network, then machines other than the host can use the network.

Basically I want to use bridging and have it always enabled on the host, even when something is not plugged in to the physical NIC. Maybe can't be done in Windows and/or VMWare...

If that's not possible, I've thought I could use VMWare's private networks (and enabled on host), then use Windows "Bridge Connection" in Control Panel to connect the VMWare private network with the physical ethernet I'd like "bridge" to (if something is there to bridge to ).

Or maybe I'm missing something, but I don't see any VLAN support in Workstation, which might also solve my issue.

VMware Workstation and Device/Credential Guard are not compatible. VMware Workstation can be run after disabling Device/Credential Guard.

VMWare Workstation Pro 15 (windows) - how to attach HID keyboard to guest

$

Hi,

I have a bluetooth keyboard that shows up in the system as a HID keyboard.

I want to share that directly with a guest. How do i do that with VMware Workstation Professional 15

In older versions it appears you could do this (VMware Knowledge Base):

Edit your virtual machine's .vmx file to include the lines below.

usb.generic.allowHID = "TRUE"

usb.generic.allowLastHID = "TRUE"

But if you add those lines to workstation pro 15 it just says the config is invalid.

There must surely be a manual method to pass in a HID device through the vmx file... but how do i do it.

Thanks in advance...

P.S In case anyone suggests it. Yes I have bluetooth sharing enabled, while i can see the hardware device under bluetooth in the guest that does not invoke it to install the HID keyboard under the keyboard section in device manager. IMHO I'm sure this is by design (not to attach keyboards to guests automatically)

Connecting Extra USB HID Device to VMware Workstation VM Automatically on Startup

Hi,

How can I connect an extra HID device (for example, an extra mouse and keyboard unifier) at VM startup for Windows 10 guest? I'm using VMware Workstation 15.0.3 on Windows 10 host machine.

I can connect non-HID USB devices like USB pen automatically to VM and VM remembers it at every start and don't connect it to host machine.

However, I cannot find an easy solution for a HID device. PC have its own mouse and keyboard. Extra HID devices will be used for guest only.

How can I do it ? Thanks.

Hello.

I've converted my installation of windows 10 from physical to virtual with the VMware Vcenter Converter Standalone tool because I want to run my physical installation of Windows 10 with VMware on Debian 10. I have also installed the VMware tool inside the virtual machine. It works everything except the Multimedia Audio Controller. I don't know how to fix it.

Support for running Android 10 GSI, running/flashing a system image instead of install

Could you make it possible to directly run android 10 GSI (disk image) on VMware?

Could you make it possible to flash an image to a disk instead of an OS installation?

edit: making a bootable disk partition table and flashing the image to the partition does not work.

'System' process HIGH CPU while Playing Game

Hi!

So:I use VMware Workstation Pro 12.

I use two VMs, Win7 and Win10.

Both OS versions are clean and not buggy, best packs I've tried to find.

Completely clean, fresh and up-to-date.

VMware tools installed? -- Yes, of course.

On Win7 everything goes easy when I play World of Warcraft,

On Win10 SYSTEM process takes up to 30-50% of CPU + causes lags and stuttering to World of Warcraft when game window is ACTIVE (not at the background).

It also affects my System process on DESKTOP with a little bit less CPU usage.

Screenshot below refers to  VMware Win10.

CPU1.png

I've downloaded Process Explorer and here is what I've found:

CPU2.png

System process has been adressed by

DXGMMS1.sys!VidMmInterface+0x351c0

NTOSKRNL.EXE

Right now I am completely out of ideas and hoping someone could help me.

VMWare for device testing

$

Hello all,

Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but I am looking to setup VM environments for mobile device testing.

I am trying to connect from a VM guest to a mobile device connected physically to the host machine.

In this case an Android device being connected and being able to communicate via ADB or AT commands.

I have tried using VirtualBox for this, however I am having a major obstacle with this.

I connect my device and the modem virtual device that is enumerated in Windows device manager can be used communicate with the device modem.

After installing a windows 10 guest VM, I was not able to see this virtual modem device in the guest VM.

In VirutalBox the client allows you to connect specific USB devices that it can detect, however it does not list the modem for me to select.

While I am currently investigating this for VirtualBox I thought I poke around here to see if anyone knows if VMWare supports what I need.

Is this product or other VMware products capable of connecting to virtual devices supported on other hardware platforms (mobile devices, Kiosks...etc.)?

Appreciate any help.

Thanks!

Workstation 15 hang on installing virtual network drivers in Windows 10

Hello

I worked very comfortable with player 14 until some day in the recent past my windows 10 updated. Since then it sent a message that player 14 was not compatible with that version, that i needed to get a compatible one. Then i upgraded to player 15.5 and for first time in my life i noticed I had problems with player in Windows. Upgrade hung installing virtual network drivers for so much time, i remembered i had to skip this step. When it finally finished, vms didnt' have communication. It never helped to unistall, reinstall, reboot, repair because things weren't better. I started read and realized problem was related to virtual network drivers. The most exact i have read is :

"I rebooted and reinstalled VMWare Player 15. The installer hangs at installing the network adapters. If I look at my device manager while the installer goes, I see the network adapter for vmnet1 appear with a yellow warning sign on it. It hangs for about 5 minutes this disappears and vmnet8 appears with the same thing. It hangs again for about 5 minutes and then disappears as well. Then the VMWare Player installer says the installation is complete and boots up. The problem is there are no network adapters but I don't receive any errors or anything."

Test included reduce UAC to the minumum and disable Symantec endpoint protection in my Windows10, but nothing, Network drivers don't work. Things are the same when i try Workstation 15.5.

Until now i cannot find solution.

I reproduced an install and attach the following logs

vminst*.log

vmmsi*.log

I hope to find a solution soon.

Workstation 15 USB transfer performances

$

Hello,

I'm working on an external USB device that talks to the pc using USB Bulk Transfers. The device use a special protocol with two data endpoints, one for reads and one for writes (0x01 and 0x82).

The device and the pc software work perfectly in any physical O.S., either linux, MacOS or Windows.

When working on a virtual machine, on VMWare Workstation PRO 15.5, either Windows or Linux (guest), the transfer are extremely slow.

In a test we made, transferring around 5000 records between the pc and the device, we had the following results:

native Linux: Test completed in 2.0 to 2.9 seconds (release/debug)

native Windows 10: Test completed in 2.9 to 3.0 seconds (32 / 64bit)

Windows 10 VM, Windows 10 Host: Test completed in 120seconds (64 bit)

Linux VM (Mint 19.2), Windows 10 Host: Test completed in 500s

Windows 10 VM, Linux Host (Ubuntu 18.04): Test completed in 15s

As you see, performances are poor to awful in VM, regardless of the Guest and Host o.s.

The VM are similar, USB mode always set to 2.0, O.S. are always up to date. test software is always the same, compiled in VS 2019 or gcc 8 for linux, and works without any issue except for the performances.

Does anyone know of anything I can do to diagnose and hopefully fix this issue?

Thank you in advance and kind regards

Federico
