I have a USB device that I would like to develop that will be running Linux. Is it possible to use the USB Interface on a Linux VM in Gadget mode and connect it to another VM in Host mode? That would allow me to develop the software all virtually without having to build the physical hardware.
I know this is a weird setup and isn't what Workstation was developed for, but I'm wondering if it can be made to work.
How can I get rid of the incredibly annoying, and "To release input, press ctrl+alt" pop-up message, each time I enter my VM?

I create a VM using VMWare workstation 10 and then I moved it to another machine and now I am having issues with starting the VM. I am getting below error msg when I start the VM. I have encrypt this VM and that's why I am getting this error.
Error message: "The restrictions management server must be accessible when this restricted virtual machine is used for the first time on this host. Check your network connectivity and try again.

acabo de crear una máquina virtual de Windows 2000 pro, ha ido todo bien, pero en las propiedades de la configuración de pantalla no me deja cambiar a mas de 16 colores y resolución de 640*480 píxeles... 
Todo ello por tener instalada un controlador de VGA estándar... Lo que necesito es una resolución de como mínimo 1280*1024 y 16 o 32 bits de color. Gracias de antemano por vuestra ayuda!

J'aimerais créer une VM à partir d'une clé USB bootabe, sachant que cette clé fonctionne et qu'elle permet l'installation de PC.
L'USB controller existe dans les paramètres de la VM créée avec une installation de l'OS "later", la clé est d’ailleurs visible et active dans la barre de "status", mais lorsque je lance la VM pour installer l'OS, la clé USB n'apparaît pas dans le "BootMenu".
Pouvez-vous me dire comment procéder, svp.

VMware workstation 10 exception 0xc0000005 (Access violation) has occurred. Update your VMware tools. Collect script and send it to support.
Any suggestion. It just happening last week and I am using workstation for months.

Hello for an OCR (Optical Character Reading) project of mine I am looking into the ability to have a custom resolution.
I would Love to have something among the 2560x3840 resolution, this would help me in a great deal because I have less scrolling to do
High vertical resolution is what I am aiming for,
1. I already searched and tried a few things such as editing the .vmx configuration file
2. Tried to manual enter some data in the regedit

Videocard Sapphire 2GB D5 X HD7870 OC GHZ Edition AMD
128GB ECC Ram
1x Intel Xeon 2689 I5
2x Dell monitor 27 Inch 2560x1440 Supported Resolution
I edited / Added the following Lines in the VMX files
svga.autodetect = "FALSE"
svga.maxHeight = "4096"
svga.vramSize = "134217728" 5120x4096x4 =83.886.080 but for some reason there was 134.217.728 in the settings but that should be sufficient enough right?
svga.maxWidth = "5120"
Is this possible some way or another?
the highest resolution I see here is:
Control Panel\Appearance and Personalisation\Display\Screen Resolution\Advanced Settings\Adapter\List all Modes\
List of Valid Modes biggest number is 2560x1920
Weird enough that is a resolution my real screen does not support (that is 2560x1440)
Any help is appreciated, Any known limitations I overlook also!

I have a need to add a couple of SCSI disks to my VMware Workstation VM (v10), and those disks need SCSI IDs of 1:x (i.e. needing a second controller). Could anyone give me some advice on the .vmx parameters needed for this? I've looked at a few posts - one of which says that I just need to add the drives in the GUI, then change the SCSI IDs in the .vmx.. but this doesn't work.

I have made a search on the internet but i have not found any document that explain in detail the NAT and Bridged networking. There are document and page web with summary and not detailed information.
Please can any one explain me, if possible, in detail how to works? Or can any one tell me where i find a resource or document where i can learn that argument?
For example, what i want to know is the tasks of virtual network adapters VMnet0 and VMnet8.
How to WMnet0 and VMnet8 communicate with virtual network adapter and host netwrok adapter?

I have add my domain User Account to the permissions in shared VMs.
I mad the error that i add it with readonly permission.
Now i cant reset ist because the permission denied.
Also start workstation with admin permission. I cant delete the user.
Wher can i undo this? Because i cant set the settings for my VMs.

Hi, all. Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask my question. This is a sales/pricing question. I've tried searching for an answer, or any way to communicate with VMware directly, to no avail. I'm on Workstation 7.1.6 and need to use features of Workstation 10. So, I'm looking at whether I qualify for any upgrade prices. It appears that the website will happily sell me an upgrade, regardless of whether it will actually work as an upgrade or not. I'd prefer to save the $100 difference between the upgrade price and the new product purchase price. Can anyone comment on whether I can apply an upgrade to my 7.1.6 purchase rather than making a new purchase outright?

I recently installed ubuntu-13.10-desktop-amd64 in a VM using Easy Install and everything worked fine initially. Install completed, and guest OS booted successfully (host OS is Win7 64-bit). I shut down the guest and exited Workstation, then restarted Workstation and booted the Ubuntu VM. The VM starts booting, then the host OS crashes with a blue-screen error "BAD_POOL_HEADER". Ran hardware checks and no problems were found. Noted that I can run a similarly-configured ubuntu 12.04 (64-bit) VM without crashing. Workstation version is 10.0.1-1379776. Anyone else run into this problem?

A major performance problem in VMware is saving virtual machines' state to disk. It's so slow that it makes me wonder how is it possible to write data to the disk so slowly, while causing the entire host system to crawl trying to read something tiny off the disk. It takes 2-10 minutes to save a Windows 2008 R2 guest with 1 - 1.5 GB of RAM to disk. For comparison this is how long it takes a well written tool to do the same (this log is from a disk backup utility that I wrote):

Compare: 11 seconds v.s. 2-10 minutes and you will see how well the vmware developers optimize their code. Also note that my tool doesn't disrupt other programs, only vmware does that. 
I have also used hyper-v on the same machine, and it takes only a few seconds to save the state of the same guests to disk. Performance on hyper-v is superior. For both disk and CPU intensive tasks and the guests ran just as fast as the host and even booted in half the time or less. The benefits of VMware are 32 bit display depth, drag and drop for files (which sometimes stops working), and USB redirection.
Note: right now I'm using 10.0.2 build-1744117, but version 9 is also affected from the slow save to disk.
@jessepool asked me to attach a log file, so here is the log file from Help, About. In it you can see that I resumed Ubuntu x64 guest first and then suspended it. It was relatively fast this time as I didn't do any tasks on the guest, but sometimes it takes a lot. Then I ran sync.exe and waited for it to complete (17 seconds for 1 GB). Then I resumed a Windows 2008 r2 x64 guest, let it run for a few seconds, run sync.exe on the host, to make sure no disk operations are pending, then click save state - it took about 5 seconds, then ran sync.exe again which took 88 seconds for 1.5 GB RAM on the guest. If I use the guest for actual work, it may take 5 minutes to save it's state to disk. While the data is written to disk, the host is terribly slow, so I can't use it for any tasks. So I usually run sync, wait for it to complete and continue with my work.
VMware Workstation 10.0.0 build-1295980 is continually crashing the host with blue screen error DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL caused by vmusb.sys+3ab4. This only happens in Workstation 10, I never had this problem with Workstation 9.

I'm trying to setup a lab as shown below:
Lab Network (192.168.32.0/24) -------- Switch/Router ------- (Ethernet: 10.x.x.x - Public Network) Laptop (vmnet8: 192.168.35.0/24-VMWare Guest's NAT network)
I'm trying to connect my laptop to the LAB Device which in turns authenticates me using ACS.
So as of now I have IP connectivity between the VM Guest's network and the LAB device however as I'm using NAT mode I don't have bi-directional connectivity between the LAB device and the VM Guest machine network.
From the Guest VM machine to LAB device.
From LAB device to Guest VM network/machine as it's PATed.
I would like to know if I only have the option to do port-redirection in this case to make it work or is there any other way to achieve one-to-one NAT kind of connectivity between the LAB and the Guest VM's network.
I would refrain from using Bridged mode as I need to do this on a network where I can't request for another set of IP address from DHCP (if I understand the bridge mode correctly, correct me if I'm wrong).
Also, as the LAB device is going to act as a client and ACS (AAA server) as the server, the request is initiated from the ASA so I'm not sure what source port I need to mention on VMWare Network Editor when using NAT mode.
Let me know if there is any confusion/doubts regarding my setup and I will clarify it further for you.
I would appreciate any suggestions on this.

Yesterday my pc crashed and I had to reinstall it. Luckily, my vmdk files are on other disks. I re-added the first vmdk disk without problems, but the second disk has no vmdk files only sxxx files (see picture).
Anyone a clue if this can be repaired?

VMware plug-in accompanied with VMware workstation 10.1 isn't working in Visual Studio 2013. It is officially supported in VS2005 and VS2008, and It also works in VS2010 and VS2012. It isn't working only in VS2013. The VMware menu item isn't shown in the main menu bar. Please let me know the plug-in should work in VS2013 or not.

I recently upgraded my VMWare Workstation to 10.0.2 build 1744117. It's now prompting me to upgrade the VMWare Tools in the guest OS. Both Host and Guest are running Windows 7 x64.
I am running the VMWare Workstation software as Administrator, and am logged in to the guest OS as an administrative account.
Unfortunately, when I click on the button to upgrade, nothing happens -- it says to manually run the D:\Setup.exe if it isn't auto-launching. Attempting that, it tells me there's no disc in the drive. I've followed some instructions to make sure that I've got the drive connected to an auto-detect physical IDE drive, with no results. Manually starting it from the VM menu doesn't make a difference, and the software updater is telling me there's no further updates to download.
I've even tried manually downloading the package, unzipping it, and copying it to the guest OS, and still no results -- the installer runs for a second, then stops.
Not sure what else to try. Anyone have any leads for me?

everytime the same....good convert without problems....then i wanna start them in Workstation.....
how to say...i click the play-button, it pops up..and thats it....no failure message, etc, but wont run
weird thing is, that its goin to happen with a laptop & a workstation !?!?
btw, i tried with old converter 3 & the newest......same result.
