VMWare Player stuck at Starting Virtual Printinf daemon

Hello.

I am using VMware from Windows 8.1 to host Ubuntu 14.04.

After installing GTK+ on Ubuntu, I shutdown normally the guest from the OS and when I booted it, it is stuck at :

Starting Virtual Printing daemon : done

-

With the "-" blinking.

The only thing I am able to do is to send Ctrl Alt Insert to the virtual machine in order to reboot it, but the problem is still here.

I am able to go into GRUB and run the Memtest86+ with no error.

I launched the task manager on the host and it seems that VMware is not using the hard disk and the CPU.

Just before a list of log appeared and the only error is :

Run click system level hooks : fail

Does someone have an idea to save my guest ? Is there any way to restore my guest ?

Thanks.

How to join domain from desktop into DC in Vmware?

$

Hi All,

I installed VMware Workstation 10 on my desktop (Windows 8.1 Ent 64 bit). In VM I created 2 VM machines with Windows 2000 Adv Server and configured them to AD-DC and I also created 2 VM machines with Windows Xp Pro Sp2. All networks of VM machines using Bridge mode. 2 VM XP joined domain normally, but desktop in my LAN (Windows XP too) cannot join the domain in VMware. I have checked:

- Ping from XP desktop to my desktop: OK

- Ping from XP desktop to 2 VM AD-DC: OK

- Prefer DNS on XP desktop: OK

- Turn off firewall on all machines

- nslookup on XP VM machines to test DNS: OK

- Check SID even though I install VM machines separately.

The message is :"A domain controller for domain abc.lab.com could not be contacted ....".

I sure that the domain name is correct and I also know this cause by my desktop (XP) could not connect to DNS (on VM AD-DC) but I dont know why.

Do you have any suggestion?

Regards

Hi,

I'm running Vista Home Premium 32 Bit (latest Servicepack, all Updates installed, source is P2V) as Client on Windows 8.1 64 Bit on VMware Workstation 10.0.2 build-1744117. VMware Tools are installed; everything looks fine at the device manager. Nevertheless, autofit doesnt work. "Fit guest now" is greyed out.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Generating a unique QMId in the registry with cloned images.

I have multiple pools with hundreds of virtual desktops based off of a single base image. In order to recieve messages from a certain application per desktop the QMid needs to generate a new key for every desktop session. The QMid is found under HKLM<Software<Microsoft<MSMQ<Parameters<MachineCac  he<QMId

The only solution I have found deals with not installing MSMQ on the base image and instead having a startup batch script to install MSMQ once the session is created and another VBS script to determine the computers name in AD then remove the msmq ocnfig object within.(I have not verified this solution)

This would require larger changes to our VMenvironment so I am

looking for a better solution if there is one? I've heard of a setting that allows you to do this with Citrix but I have not found one for VMWare.

Thanks!

Snapshot Cleanup Problem

$

I am running XP on a VM 6.5 Workstation on a laptop for some older applications that won't run on any Windows OS later than XP.  I needed to open up some host HD space, so started deleting snapshots in VM snapshot manager.  This worked fine until I tried to delete a large snapshot, and the VM Snapshot Manager started the 'cleanup' process, but stopped with a notice that host OS disk space was insufficient to clean up snapshot, and to open up more HD disk space and try cleanup again.

The snapshot was deleted (doesn't show up in VM Snapshot Manager), and the VM XP machine works fine, but the large (20GB) snapshot vmdk file is still on the host HD, taking up space.

Since the VM Snapshot Manager doesn't show a snapshot anymore, how do I start it doing the 'cleanup' process again to get rid of this file?

Thanks.

My Virtual Machine is broken. Help required to restore it back!!

Hello peeps

Hopefully someone will come forward to assist me with this problem with broken vm files on my NEW drive.

I have build this with VMware Workstation 10.02 a while back and have been using it just fine until my HDD experienced a corrupt partition table of my MBR, due to mechanical issues it developed just recently. I managed to recover most of my data on this drive and one more vm with a different OS on it. The one in question is a vm with Win XP SP3 and with a few snapshots (4 in total). This one is the only one that is not working and I can see inside the vm folder that .vmx file is not present. I have attached a screenshot image with all the files inside the vm folder to take a look at, and maybe get some useful feedback towards fixing it. AFAIK, I will need to recreate that missing .vmx file but maybe some others. I'm not very techy with this stuff so I cant be too sure how and what steps to take to resolve this prob. and if you programmers out there want to help please reply to me with "easy to understand" instructions, as you may get me lost easily .

Thank you

John

Problem with OVF Tool

Hi, I try to convert a RADIUSdesk-2014-1-2.ova virtual Appliance (from Virtual Box) into my VMware Workstation 9.

Because of problems I installed the newest version from ovftools  (3.5.2)

But everytime I try to convert the ova file I will get the following error:

  Line 2: Incorrect namespace

  http://schemas.dmtf.org/ovf/envelope/2 found.

I tried this link, this works.

Line 2 in the ovf-File:

<Envelope ovf:version="2.0" xml:lang="en-US" xmlns="http://schemas.dmtf.org/ovf/envelope/2" xmlns:ovf="http://schemas.dmtf.org/ovf/envelope/2" xmlns:rasd="http://schemas.dmtf.org/wbem/wscim/1/cim-schema/2/CIM_ResourceAllocationSettingData" xmlns:vssd="http://schemas.dmtf.org/wbem/wscim/1/cim-schema/2/CIM_VirtualSystemSettingData" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:vbox="http://www.virtualbox.org/ovf/machine" xmlns:epasd="http://schemas.dmtf.org/wbem/wscim/1/cim-schema/2/CIM_EthernetPortAllocationSettingData.xsd" xmlns:sasd="http://schemas.dmtf.org/wbem/wscim/1/cim-schema/2/CIM_StorageAllocationSettingData.xsd">

Can anyone help me converting this file?

This is the link for the appliance:http://sourceforge.net/projects/radiusdesk/files/VM-Images/

Thanks for any reply.

How to use vmware-kvm.exe with Dual Screens?

$

Hello all,

Anyone knows how to use vmware-kvm.exe with dual screens?

In fact, my question is two-fold:

* how to start a VM in Dual Screen mode or switch to Dual Screen mode, when using the vmware-kvm.exe tool?
* how to choose per VM on which monitor the VM should open with the vmware-kvm tool? The vmware-kvm preferences has a general option for all VMs started, but I would like to know how to choose this per VM.

IF these options are not available yet, what should I do to ask VMware to look into these options for future vmware-kvm releases... ?!

Thx, T

Problems with VMWare Workstation on Fedora hosts and Windows guests

Having a problem on two different machines. I've had this problem with Fedora 20 and every version of VMWare Workstation 10 (10.0.0->10.0.3)

1. Dell Latitude E6510 / Intel 720QM / 8GB

2. SuperMicro X8SIE-F / Xeon X3440 / 12GB

This problem occurs with both Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 guests. The machines run fine, but sometimes (every other time it seems) when you tell the guest to shut down (Start -> Shut Down, OK) the host machine locks up.

Any ideas?

Unable to remote desktop to VM Machine

Hi,

I am new to VM environment so please excuse the newbie questions.

I created a VM machine on a laptop (A) and I am trying to remote desktop from another laptop (B) to the VM and I am unable to do so. Checked the Remote Desktop settings, and I have Allow remote to the machine checked.

I have followed directions from http://geekswithblogs.net/NewThingsILearned/archive/2009/11/13/connect-to-vmware-virtual-machines-using-remote-desktop.aspx

I cannot seem to ping the VM from the laptop (B), however, when pinging the laptop (B) from the VM, works. Also, I can remote into the laptop (B) from the VM machine.

Another issue is that I can't seem to connect to the VM machine from Windows Explorer from Laptop (A), using \\Machine Name\C$.

I appreciate looking to this!

Thanks!

"hw.model" flag in .vmx files not taking effect. Need a windows VM to see a specifc model of PC... help.

This is my first post in the VMWare forum, though I have been using VMWare products since their version 1 was released so long ago.

My problem may be fairly obscure, however the underlying mechanism that is failing for me affects a wide scope of users.

I am designing a custom FPGA-based tablet human interface device. Sort of similar to a WACOM Cintiq display/drawing tablet...

In this project I am using tablet digitizer boards originally designed for the HP Elitebook 2740p.

This matters because I have received an updated firmware from WACOM designed for these digitizers, which enables UART among

other things.

The problem is that the firmware updates are hardcoded to detect the system-id and board-id using the "wmic CSPRODUCT" command.

This means that unless I can modify the SMBIOS of a system to fool the firmware updater, using a VM to masquerade these identifiers

is the only solution other than purchasing a very expensive tablet PC just to update the digitizers.

Using VMWare workstation 10 to create a new Windows XP Virtual machine, and adding to VM's .vmx file as follows:

board-id.reflectHost ="FALSE"
board
-id ="0x7007"
hw
.model.reflectHost ="FALSE"
hw
.model ="HP Elitebook 2740p Tablet PC"
smbios.reflectHost ="FALSE"

NONE OF THESE FLAGS ARE TAKING EFFECT WITHIN THE VM!

I have performed at least a dozen installs and edited the config file. I have tried using a friend's private cloud with VSphere,

VMWare Workstation 10, and VMWare fusion 5 on a friend's mac. None of them seem to interpret those flags.

When I query the board-id or system-id from within the VM itself (wmic CSPRODUCT), I receive the following:

Board ID: 440BX-Desktop

Model: VMware Virtual Platform

System ID: VMware-56

etc.etc.etc

It's not using the values I specifed or giving me any failure errors when I start the VM. Help.

Why bother providing documentation on these .vmx flags if they aren't going to be active?!?!?!?!?!

I understand most folks are using it to passthrough/spoof Apple system ID's to get OSX discs running in VM's.

This is a much more useful and legitimate application of those flags, and I cannot comprehend why they are not making a shred of difference

here. Please advise, and thanks for the very useful product in the first place

Anyway to utilize more than 16 threads in VM workstation?

Hi, I have a 12 core 24 thread host and    I'm using the VM to do some video rendering for someone else.

In the settings I tried to change it to 24 thread but unfortunately the most they let me is 16.

Is there anyway to bypass the limit or it's impossible to utilize 100% of my cpu?
