My Operating System is Windows 10 64 bit, I want to install x64 Workstation, but i can't find it, only 32 bit, it will be installed in "program files(x86)" folder.

So, silly me, I listened to the nag prompts for upgrading Workstation 14.  So, I did.  Xp, Windows 7, Windows 10 handled the upgrade fine.  But, the mac VM is in a perpetual reboot cycle.  Huh.

Note to VM engineering: you're logging too much crap.  3k lines of I'm sure very pertinent stuff, but why won;t my vm boot?  That's the issue.

Any one else dealt with this?

I have VMware Workstation 15 running on my company laptop with a VM running SLES 11.4 in it.

I am using Cisco VPN client to vpn back to my office's network from the laptop at home.

The servers in my company's network is using these IPs - 192.168.11.10, 192.168.11.20, 192.168.11.30 and 192.168.11.40.

My laptop will get an IP-192.168.12.55 on the Cisco VPN adapter when the Cisco VPN client is connected.

I can then ping to and access all the servers with the IPs -192.168.11.xx from my company laptop at home.

I bridged the network interface on my SLES VM to the Cisco VPN adapter interface using the Virtual Network Editor

I had assigned 192.168.12.70 to eth0 on my SLES VM and i can ping to my company laptop -192.168.12.55 but i can't ping to any of the servers in my office from the SLES VM.

Are there any way i can make this work for me ?

After I upgraded to VMware Workstation (Pro and Player) 15.0.4 for Windows, I was not able to boot Windows VMs with two cores assigned to them.

There would be a black screen without the BIOS/UEFI splash screen ever showing up. This behaviour showed up when I tried to start a Windows Server 2003 R2, Vista or 7 VM, but it may not be limited to that.

This ultimately forced me to downgrade to version 15.0.3, which is running just fine with the above mentioned configurations.

I am running a quad-core Intel Skylake processor without Hyperthreading, paired with 8GB of RAM.

I've found posts as old as 7 years old referring to this issue, and I'm having the exact problem now in 2019. I get the errors below in the event viewer each time I plug in our out a USB device. And also at random times ( without actually plugging in anything.)

I'm running VMware Workstation 15 pro, latest version as of today ( 15.0.2 build-10952284 ), on an ASUS ROG GL702V Notebook, on Windows 10 64 bits latest build (17763).

Reading in ASUS' forums, the only solution that actually works is to disable the "VMWare USB Arbitration Service" , but that is not a real solution since it disables the possibility to attach USB devices to VM's.

Any ideas/suggestions?

Hello all,

Today I upgraded VMware tools and noticed an annoying issue with my mouse cursor. Whenever it transitions from one cursor to another (e.g. pointer to text cursor, pointer to hand) it disappears for a brief moment. This is difficult to explain, so I've made an animation:

In addition to this, the mouse will occasionally jump to the top left of the screen and come out of the guest (un-grab) as if I have pressed Ctrl+Alt.

And when I do have mouse in the host, it sometimes requires two clicks to get it back into the guest.

Initially, I made the mistake of uninstalling the PS/2 mouse driver, as I thought I did not need it (mouse is plugged into USB). However, I then remembered that VMware emulates a PS/2 mouse and I need that driver for optimum performance.

Unfortunately, the problem persisted even after re-installing that. I also tried a complete uninstall and re-install of VMware tools, but to no avail.

Host: Windows 10 Pro, v1809

Guest: Windows 7 Pro, SP1

VMware Workstation: 15.0.1 build-10737736

VMware tools: 10.3.2 build-9925305

Mouse drivers:

VMware Pointing Device: version 12.5.7.0, date 2015-12-18

Edit: I found that it only happens when using dual monitors in fullscreen. There is no flicker if I just use the VM in a window or fullscreen on a single monitor.

I also tried on another Windows 7 VM, with an older version of VMware tools (10.1.6 build-5214329), and the flicker does not happen. So it seems to be an introduced bug.

Nat works but outside computers cant connect to SCO 5.0.6 Server running on Workstation 15.2 on top of Windows 10.

I have my Ubuntu 18.10 host and a Windows 7 guest on VMware Workstation Pro 15.0.3.

I was in the guest and some how I froze it, then the guest freezes VMware and I got trapped: I wasn't able to get out of the VM because VMware was capturing all of my inputs (EVEN MY POWER BUTTON!!!) and it was freezing, and because of that I couldn't click or type, or hot keys, tty keys or ANYTHING. Although the host wasn't freeze but my input was bricked then it was like my host is bricked. I had to hard reset and lost all of my work, even though I was able to save them.

VMware freezes on my host, most of the time when my VM freezes of when executing tasks.

I don't know why but VMware is having so many probelm on my Linux host. I can't update VMware tools, VMware system is buggy and traps me many times. I never have this kind of problems on Windows and... I really don't want to say this but switching VMware from Windows to Linux is like WTF.

We currently test a virtual machine with VMWARE workstation pro 15 in demo mode.

We use a older CAD program with macro inside the virtual machine, and from 930GB of hard drive space we have been able to shrink it to 330GB.

We don't have problem running the cad program, we are looking to gain speed went the program use macro in order to speak with another program inside the virtual machine.

The machine we test currently have a hard drive.

We suppect that with an SSD it will greatly increase the macro treatment inside the program we have.

Could we increase the speed or the ressources available to the machine tweaking vmware workstation?

I've been running linux VM's on top of Window for ages now for work. I quit using workstation few years back and moved to virtualbox because workstation at the time had some quirks I could never resolve. Now virtual box is quirky as hell and can't get any linux distro working well on it. So now I'm giving workstation 15 a demo.

I can't get everything working in a single distro of linux. I prefer Ubuntu Mate but I can't get shared folders working. My second prefernce, Xubuntu, I can't even get that far. Desktop resizing won't work.

Is there a guide to actually getting Ubuntu working smoothly with all guest additions working? If not, ANY distro of linux? I don't care at this point, I just need a current generation linux distro working with bridged networking, shared folders working, bi-directional clipboard working, desktop resizing working. And doesn't feel clunky once running when open/closing stuff, scrolling a browser with the mouse wheel, or dragging windows around. Not sure why this is so "clunky" and "rough" now.

I have a high-end system running Windows 10 Pro. (until last week I was running Windows 8, lost my SSD, replaced it and decided to move to Windows 10 since I had a free license) Now I can't get my linux VM's working in virtualbox or workstation.

So hoping this forum can help me. Workstation is pretty pricey so in order for me to fork out that kind of money I need to see a linux distro working relatively smoothly in this.

System specs:

12-core proc

64GB Ram

Nvidia 1080Ti video board (running at 3840x2160)

2x512GB SSD attached to a hardware raid controller, configured as raid0

I seem to have a problem with host-only network. I cannot ping or browse to my client VM from the host - although NAT is working fine inside the VM.

Setup:

VM Workstation 15.0.2 build-10952284

Host - Windows 10 Pro 64bit

Client - Windows Server 2016 64bit

I have tested:

* disabling the firewall on the client

* uninstalling and reinstalling VMWare Workstation Pro

* deleting all network interfaces and setup again:

I have noticed that when setting up the host-only connection, the interface is seen as "host-only" and i can check the box to connect a host virtual adaptor to the network:

But, after applying the settings, the type changes to custom, and the checkbox is not checked any more:

But, inetconfig /all does not show any VMWare adaptors, and I don't see any Windows Services running for Host-only network. (I do see services for Workstation services, NAT, USB, DHCP and authorization.)

Not sure what else I can check?

Hello, can you guys please update VMware workstation to work with the new windows 10 1903 update because when you try to open a VM it just hangs and it doesn't open, sometimes it does but most times it doesn't open at all.

Hello, I got a problem after upgrade to Windows Insider Preview 1903 18362.30 x64 on host machine.

CPU : I5-8400

RAM : 16G

Host OS : Windows 10 1903 x64 18362.30 (Latest WIP)

VMWare Version : 15.0.4 build-12990004

Before I upgraded to Windows Insider Preview 18362.30, I was using Windows 10 RS5 x64 as a host operating system.

I could run any VM guest machine without any problem.

But, after I upgrade to Windows 10 1903, I cannot run any VM guest.

Guest screen only shows a black screen, and nothing happens.

Anybody has same issue like this? And if anybody has solution it will be very thankful.

We have an ESXi environment that has reached it's 6 CPU capacity with our VSphere essentials license. Our internal license fees to increase the number of supported CPUs is quite a jump so I am looking at options such as just using VMWare Workstation on high end hardware.

My question is....

What operating system provides the lowest host operating system overhead?

I am thinking Server 2016 scaled down to a minimum of processes.

Or even Server 2019.

What about LTSB 2019?

These will be workstations set up to do nothing but host VMs.

I already have powershell scripts that I use for cloning and deploying VMs to individual workstations running VMWorkstation.

The single point of management for VSphere/VCenter is nice but not for what our internal charges would be,

I am using an HP Elitebook Workstation 8560w, which I have upgraded to have 512 GB SSD and 2TB internal hard drive (in the optical bay drive).

The laptop is from 2011 and runs Windows 7 x64 Pro.

I am running Workstation PRO 15 on this laptop.

Now I am planning to buy a new laptop and scrap the old one, but there are a few caveats:

1) P2V to be able to use software

I will have to virtualize (p2v) the old computer for two reasons:

A) because there are a few software products that I use a lot and which I cannot reinstall since the software vendor has vanished and the software uses a license keyed to the actual laptop. I have tried before to move this software over from one computer to another but no luck...

So by creating a virtual machine from it I can keep old settings etc too.

B) I need access to my old laptop as a backup should I have forgotten something on it....

By making a p2v clone I will fix this.

2) How to handle Workstation PRO 15?

Since the laptop is my host for a fair amount of virtual machines I have the following concerns while migrating:

- Do I have to uninstall WS PRO15 from the existing machine before I do the P2V conversion? It seems likely since I doubt you can operate Workstation from within a virtual machine, right?

- Are there licensing problems for WmWare to do this (uninstall WS15PRO from old laptop before p2v operation and install it on the new laptop which likely will be Windows 10)?

3) How do I handle the virtual machines?

Can I just move the folders containing the virtual machines out to an external hard drive to be used with the new laptop?

It is a pity that no current laptop models support an internal extra hard drive like my Elitebook does...

Do guests work well if placed on external drives?

4) Will it run?

And lastly, will the converted Windows7 continue to run in the new virtual machine?

Getting a new license cannot be done since Microsoft has stopped selling them, and I will scrap the old laptop so I don't need both.

Any suggestions/ideas/howtos etc appreciated!

I am testing VMWare Workstation 15 on Ubuntu Desktop 18.04 (64bit)

I startup a VM using the commandline:

vmware -t -X -q <path to vm>/<titel>.vmx

I am getting numerous errors (in terminal session).

Some of them I could erradicate using:

sudo apt install libaio1

sudo apt install libgtkmm-2.4-1v5

sudo apt install libgtkmm-3.0-1v5

The one that keeps repeating during running:

(vmware:7098): Gtk-WARNING **: 20:03:20.474: ../../../../gtk/gtkwidget.c:13195: widget class 'gtkmm__CustomObject_ui_TabManagerProxy' has no property named 'ythickness'

This error comes up as soon as I click on the the pop-out bar at the top, when the VM is in full screen modus. The VM is running fine though.

Is there a solution for this error?

I am currently running GNS3 and VMWare Workstation on my Laptop. Previous iterations of the tandem worked reasonably well until the last update. Now I can't get my VM's to ping any devices on my GNS3 Network. I can ping between GNS3 devices, and to my external network. It's only unable to reach the VMWare endpoints and servers. This is consistent whether the images are VIRL image or running IOS on Dynamips.

I am considering rolling back to a previous version, but I wanted to check here first. Has anyone else run into this issue since the update? If so, how did you manage to make it work? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!!

P.S. As an aside, the upgrade process froze 60 percent of the way through, and it screwed up my NIC card drivers. I had to revert to a prior restore point to make them functional. That's there just in case developers may be reading.
